Yes, they were! This should become routine. At the very least: any guns owned in that home are immediately taken, no gun licenses ever given out again to family members of the perpetrator, and mandatory psych consults for all family members. But ultimately, I think trying them for accessory and basically ruining their lives should be on the table. I sympathize with people who are just as shocked by a loved one's crimes as everybody else; but, sorry, you raised or married that monster. Either you pay OR, if you sought help for them and it's documented, then whoever dropped the ball in the social services or law enforcement department gets charged. Watch how fast changes to gun laws and other things happen then!!
