What grade do you teach? I teach second in a middle to upper middle class district. Many kids are behind in their reading and math skills, and some behaviors have gotten worse at the 3-5 level. But I don't know if all the blame can be laid squarely at the feet of the pandemic. Before 2020, kids scores were slipping, or at least stagnating, and behavior has been an ongoing struggle for a long time. The pandemic has brought a lot of these things into sharper focus and intensified many existing problems. But there is something basically, fundamentally wrong with public education in the first place. I'm deeply disappointed that as a society we've learned nothing and changed nothing about schooling. As a result, it's logical to expect everything to get worse.
