It's rather American not to care about future generations. In America we're raised in a same culture of self-indulgent capitalism and we hate inconvenience as much as the next guy. Plus half of us are not only disinterested in unborn children, maybe aren't too keen on children already born, as some commenters here are saying. But if future generations motivate some people to make better choices, what's the harm? There is none. It's like religion. If your belief in God is making you a better person, then that's a wonderful thing.
