In my second grade classroom there is no debate or controversy about race. My white, cisgender coteacher and I openly discuss matters of race and racism with our mainly white students. The goal is to get them to understand why black people look different from us, and to see how illogical racism is. We do it through a science lens. We also do this when we talk about trans people.
