I hear what you're saying. I just think of my father and many of his friends he met through his church. Through a shared belief in God, logical or otherwise, he found meaning in life, friendship, and a devotion to something greater than himself which manifested in terms of community service. His politics, in fact, even started leaning considerably left as he realized that much of our country was espousing very backwards views on things which were not aligned to Christian morality (a lack of care about the environment, hated toward others, etc.)
