I had struggled with anxiety for year but finally got it under control with a low 10 mg. dose of citalopram and a little thought "play." In another psych book it pointed out that we cannot feel two opposite extreme emotions at once--fear and happiness, for example--so when I feel my anxiety starting to ramp up, I try to muster some laughter by thinking of funny moments in shows or experiences I've had. Laughing is great medicine. If it doesn't work for some reason, I've tried generating anger. Almost always the anxiety backs down, and I cool off with deep breaths. Works well and no one knows I'm doing it.
