Great article. I wish America wasn’t splintering into two separate citizenry, but wishes aren’t going to stop it. America is still a good country full of compassionate, intelligent people….but Republicans also live here. Its those on the right who have waged this stupid, insidious culture war that gets played out in our classrooms everyday. As a school system, we should be fighting ignorance and intolerance. We should, therefore, be actively and visibly fighting against any leaders who prevent us from doing our jobs.

Of course, this assumes America has a clear idea of what it is and what it stands for. We used to, I think, but now we’re operating from two very different definitions. Compound that with the confusion of what public education is supposed to be for, and we have a recipe for utter and complete disaster.
