Fascinating. It does upend the idea that women back then were either slaves, barefoot and pregnant all day in the kitchen, or prostitutes. I imagine in the vast majority of ancient cultures, women held a lot more "informal" influence than they're given credit for. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking.
