As a current teacher right now, the yoga poses are just an example of the expectation on teachers to be entertaining. Also, let's not underestimate the fact that there is no...and I'll put this in all caps... NO EXPECTATION OF ACCOUNTABILITY ON THE PART OF STUDENTS. I don't know why this is, exactly, but I suspect it has something to do with our education system morphing into a McDonald's style corporate entity, one in which the teachers are the cashiers who take the orders, the customers (prison system, military-industrial complex, corporations, and higher education) are the ones placing the order, and the students are the meat being served up by consumption. It makes sense to me. We don't hold meat accountable for anything. We cook it, prepare it, put it on a bun, splash some tasty ketchup on it, and eat it. Kids not learning anything? Well, dumb down what you're doing. Just get them in, process them, and get them out to the customers who need... prisoners, soldiers, delivery people, and cynical college students.
